July 23, 2010 10:50 AM

So, I HAVE MY FIRST OFFICIAL FOLLOWER NOW!!! AND MY FIRST OFFICIAL COMMENTS!!!!!!

I said "official" because Jersey and Tony have been talking to me about it in person or on facebook, but that doesn't count 'cause it's not recorded down for posterity.

Yay!

Also, they are ripping out some of the shelving behind the desk - they are going to be rearranging all of this stuff back here, which I guess will be good.

Right now, it gives me something to watch happen.

July 23, 2010 10:30 AM

Good morning!

I was just about to type up an entry when my arm knocked over my coffee, covering the desk, the keyboard, and the mousepad. When I started cleaning it up, I accidentally hit "Enter", and I now have an empty blog entry.

And occasionally the keyboard bleeds brown liquid (though I got most of it out).

So, yesterday I did my laundry, painted my toenails, shaved my legs, and put lotion on - like a real girl! - just because I felt that I should at least do the bare (hahaha) minimum before I go to the beach. I picked out cute beach-y outfits to pack and emptied the trash in the bathroom after discovering that I really need to shave more often.

I even considered doing my hair - and not just combing it over to the side and pretending it looks nice!!

Then the fishies came over and Carrie came over and Andy came over and Urug came home etc etc. Urug, Andy, Carrie, and Becca (Jersey's Chem friend) went to go grab some food, and Jersey, me and Cynthia (their student boss thing) played cards with them and laughed a lot.

They went home so early! (all gone by 9:30pm) so I played video games before going to bed.

Sitting here at work, I'm really glad I don't need to shave my arm hair - blondes are good for something after all.

Uh, and this morning was a rainy and gross, but Jersey held the umbrella more on my side, so he got all soaked and I just got partially soaked. Then we had Dance Party Friday!!!! for a good 45 mins!!!! And the library is boring again today, except for a lovely bit where the phone rang 4 times and I actually had to put someone on hold for once!

But I got it all solved pretty fast and Jersey took my money to go buy us coffee and bagels today (usually he pays, so I thought I would be nice and do it for once).

So yeah, Laura is gonna pick me and Jersey up at 2:30pm from our place to go to the East View Mall (about 1/2 an hour away) where we will chill and wait for the bus to arrive just after 4pm.

Then we will be on our way, and probably get to his place just after midnight!

So I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

July 22, 2010 9:15 AM

I thought I would give an update on some things:

Carrie - my old roommate, beautiful ginger goddess who had the best summer I have ever heard anyone talk about, and she totally came back hotter than before (which I didn't think was possible). She's vegetarian (which is cool), but it sounded like she got picked on a little bit by the people with her overseas. And she ate green ants live (but she doesn't think she'll ever do it again - it was just a cultural experience thing).

Tony totally got rope burn on his neck from tubing with Matt and Matt's family.

My favorite drink in the morning is coffee with soymilk - but I also love tea!

July 22, 2010 8:30 AM

Good morning!

So, I found out yesterday that Tony also reads this, and it's up on my facebook under my profile picture. I guess that means I am official now!

Yesterday after work, I ate lunch with Tony - soup! - and we worked on the puzzle for a bit until I kicked him out. Then I took a nice long nap, waking up at 6pm. Then I chilled with Jersey and Kim for a little bit, and people starting walking into the apartment. Then, it was Korean time!

I love Korean food - so much that I proposed to the waiter once! This time, we went for Robyn's birthday party (since we won't be here for her actual birthday). She came with her boy, and he was lots of fun.

My old roommate came too! She spent the summer in Australia and New Zealand on a study abroad/vacation thing where she hiked, went sky-diving, explored, and now has to write a paper about it. I really like her a lot, and after dinner, she came over to our place to chat and catch up.

We finally finished that puzzle too - as much as we could. One piece was missing, and there was one extra piece that didn't fit anywhere. That's what you get for pulling puzzles out of a donation bin...

I'm wearing a long flowing tye-dye dress today since I want a summer-y feel. It makes today feel like it might move a little faster, which would be greatly appreciated on my behalf.

Also, I am totally inviting the pre-fishies over to our place tonight.

July 21, 2010 9:00 AM

So, I went over to the Artesano Bakery and bought three bagels (2 blueberry and 1 everything). As I was leaving, I saw a friend of mine from orchestra, and he waved.

Without thinking about it, I offered him a bagel - and he took a blueberry (his favorite).

When I got back, without thinking, I offered my supervisor a bagel - and she took the everything (her favorite).

That left me with the blueberry (my favorite).

I knew those were their favorites before I bought the bagels.

I think I just discovered that I feed people on instinct. I always thought Southern hospitality was just ingrained in me, but I think that I'm one of those people that NEEDS to feed/take care of other people.

And that explains a lot.

Jersey, I'll buy you coffee today if you come over.

July 21, 2010 8:30 AM

So, I have been informed that Jersey reads this. I'm not sure if I should be happy I have a reader or like, man, I can't write bad things about people (not that I would anyway, but still)

On Monday, I read "The Reckoning" by Kelley Armstrong - I thought it was alright, but it was too sappy compared to the rest of the series! What happened there, huh?! The boys went over to Tony's to play games, and I ended up playing Batan Kaitos (sp?) for a few hours before hitting the sack.

Yesterday morning, I woke up - no! came into consciousness - huddled in a corner of my room, wrapped in the comforter I store away in the summer, with the windows open, my alarm clock off, and it was an hour later than usual. And I was shivering with fear, praying for dawn to come.

I have no idea how that happened, and I thought about skipping work. But then I realized that if I stayed home, I might do that again, and not make it safely out of my lofted bed the next time....

After work, I rode my bike over to the University of Rochester and finished up the study I was participating in - making $30 in 15 mins. When I got back, I showered, and then Jersey was home from work really early. So I played some more video games. Lazy, yeah, I know.

We invited the pre-fishies over again, and they came (except for 2) and we had a great time playing with them - cards, puzzles, and some dice game with food. I enjoyed their company a lot, but once they left - I was out like a light.

Then this morning, Jersey and I fell asleep instead of eating breakfast, and when we finally left for work, we snagged a quick bite and then fumbled out the door. I think we are in desperate need of a vacation, and it's a good thing that we've only got three more days until we go to the beach!

Otherwise, I think we might have skipped work today.

I think I'm gonna go grab a bagel or two since I'm starving.

Have a great day!

July 19, 2010 9:45 AM

So, here's the lowdown on the pre-freshmen:

Amy - a local girl who I think is cute, Jersey thinks is cute, Tony feels the same, but Urug thinks she only 'alright' - she was with her mom on Saturday

Clarissa - a born-leader type who did most of the puzzle that we all hate - everyone likes her

Lauren - one of the two who came over to our place after dinner Saturday - we all agree that she gives off an 'indie' sort of feeling

Kimbria - I keep accidentally calling her Cambria for some reason - Urug thinks she's smoking hot, and we all agree that she's pretty quiet

Stephanie - a dance teacher, horseback-rider, picky-eater - definitely the most open of the kiddos - we like her, and she already facebook-friended me

Justin - blonde, glasses, seems like he will meld into the RIT culture very nicely - he got noodles at dinner on Saturday, so I naturally approve

Gabe - pretty quiet, really nice - we think that if he talked more, he'd be one of the most popular guys in the group, but as it is, everyone likes him.

And that's it! There's only 7!

July 19, 2010 8:30 AM

On Saturday, I got up at 8:30 AM, showered, ate, and was ready when Tony got to the apartment to pick up me and Jersey for the public market. We had a pretty good time, bought a lot of food, and bought some of the best peaches I've ever had! (I finished them all by Sunday morning.) The coupons we cut out of the CITY newspaper for one cent empanadas changed to buy one, get one for one cent. It's still a pretty good deal. I also bought a pretty dress that I wore on Sunday and everyone liked.

Once we got home, we pretty much goofed off on computers and played cards until Jersey and Urug's coworker/friend Andy walked over to pick up the fishies. One of them was with her mom that day, so only six of them came. I cut up the cantaloupe, the pineapple Tony brought, and random other fruit. One of their mentors was there, and she brought Monopoly, which made for a great game.

The other kids played cards with Urug and worked on the puzzle on the floor that has been killing our brains for the past few weeks. They made much more progress than we had, and I love them forever for it. I guess they liked us/felt comfortable around us because one of them took a nap, all of them went to dinner with us at Wok with You, and then two of them even came over afterwards to chill for a few hours before I kicked them out so I could go to bed. One of them even asked if all college students were as cool as we were.

On Sunday, I got up at 8:30 AM and got ready for church - which was pretty unexciting. I mean, it was great and everything church should be, but it wasn't particularly moving. (It was the Martha/Mary sermon, for those of you who know the classic Bible stories - workaholics vs lazy bums.)

I came back to the apartment and pretty much chilled for the rest of the day. We played a lot of cards games like Go Fish and Old Maid, went to Wegmans, played more cards, and I finished the first season of Clannad. I ended up going to bed at 11:30 PM - which was pretty great. Kim and Tony came over.

Funny story - Urug had some really stale bread, and we all took turns hitting it to see if we could crack it, dent it, something - but nothing worked. So he put it up against the wall, braced himself, and punched it.

Sparks fell from the light bulbs and the electricity went out.

I put in a maintenance request to get it fixed, and the power still worked in the bedrooms and in the kitchen. But we had to run an extension cord from my room to the bathroom to have a light in there, and we spent the rest of the evening on Urug's computer or playing cards in the dark, feeling like middle school campers.

The lights were still out this morning, and Kim spent the night on our couch. When she woke up as we were leaving, she moved into my room to sleep on the floor. I told her to kick all the books and stuff out of the way.

I am exhausted this morning, but thoroughly enjoyed myself this weekend. I feel like I have lived the wonderful life of a college kid in the summer with my awesome friends!

And this Friday, I'll be going on a week-long vacation to the Jersey Shore. I couldn't be in a better mood (except if I wasn't falling asleep on myself and almost drooling).

July 19, 2010 8:00 AM

Good morning!

So it's been quite a weekend, and I'll probably divide it into two posts or something.

Anyways, on Friday, I hung out with Chanelle during work (one of my coworkers/old friend), and we both got pretty loopy and had a lot of fun behind the desk. I felt like I really shouldn't have been paid for that, but then I think about the times when I was a freshman and no one else was doing work behind the desk and I was doing everything.... and then I decide that it's fine but I'll stop if anyone complains. I asked my supervisor and left work half an hour early because I was too hungry to work.

After that, I went home and rode my bike to the University of Rochester to do my little research thing - by the time I got home, I was soaked in sweat, so I showered and changed. Then I played some cards and baked cookies for the freshmen (kick-ass molasses cookies). Once Jersey got home, me, him, Tony, and Urug wandered over to the dorms to crash the fishies' first floor meeting.

There are 5 girls and two boys. The girls are pretty great, but the guys are quiet. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing yet, but whatever.

My Resident Adviser (RA) for freshmen year is their RA for this program, so we had a few reminiscing moments about things you shouldn't do in the dorms. The kids liked the cookies, and sometime during the meeting, we decided we'd go to see Iron Man 2 at the dollar theater. Since the show started in an hour or so, we played a little Apples to Apples (if you don't know about this game, it's really fun, but it can be frustrating when no one likes what card you picked). I didn't get any points :p

One of the previous 4-weekers was there (she came from the year before me and the boys), and she lost her cellphone underneath a locked door. So while she got campus safety to come unlock the door, we walked back over to my place to get in Tony's car and go to the theater to buy tickets. We snagged a whole row to ourselves when they came and watched the movie.

I had seen it before with some friends earlier in the summer, but I had been drifting in and out of sleep that time. This time, I watched it all the way through and thoroughly enjoyed it. More of a guy movie than a girl one, but still good.

Then we split up and we went back to my place while they went to the dorms. I called it a night and went to bed.

And that was just Friday!

July 16, 2010 10:05 AM

So, I thought I'd take a moment to talk about the past.

I mentioned that I came to RIT and participated in a summer research program - it was 4 weeks of fun, research, getting paid, taking classes, and exploring Rochester. I made tons of friends and loved it.

Well, this is the two-year anniversary of the date I came here! (or somewhere near it) That means all the new little freshmen are showing up today, and I am so excited to meet them! I invited them over to my place on Saturday afternoon, so I hope they show up! (we have two cantaloupes ready and waiting!)

There are supposed to be 8 of them this year, but one couldn't make it. So now there will be 7 of them showing up, and they were supposed to start moving in at 9am today. I couldn't go help since I'm working (not very hard, but work is work) and everyone else is taking the day off.

But I am eagerly awaiting getting to see their little faces and baking them cookies etc!!!!

Have a great weekend!

July 16, 2010 10:00 AM

So sorry I didn't post yesterday (like anyone is reading this anyways).

So on Tuesday evening, I played some more video games and did nothing.

Yesterday was my coworker's birthday, but we didn't do anything for it and he was pretty much AWOL all day anyway.

In the afternoon, Tony came over for lunch and then we sorta chilled for a while - I did some laundry. Then when Jersey and Urug came home, we talked about going out to eat.

Urug didn't come because he was meeting up with friends - but the other boys came. We went to Dogtown on Monroe Ave, and I got a vegan hot dog and a vegan spicy black bean burger - both of which were very good and very filling (though the burger had too many onions for my liking).

I started watching the anime Clannad yesterday evening (yes, I'm a nerd/dork/geek, I know), and I laughed a lot. Then Jersey said that I'm like the only person he knows who laughs aloud when watching TV by myself and he can hear me across the courtyard when he was doing his laundry. He told me it was a good thing, which is strange since normally people tell me that I'm being too loud or obnoxious. Then he started watching with me, so I guess I sounded like I was having lots of fun.

He didn't get it.

Oh well.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

July 14, 2010 11:00 AM

Good morning!

I have officially gone from a bagel-hater to a bagel-liker. As in, I don't normally eat them, but this summer I get starving at around ten o'clock and guess what the vegan option is?

A tour group just went by, and I pretended to be busy.

Not much is happening - yesterday I rode my bike (got it for free from a friend) over to the University of Rochester to participate in a research study. I'm going for a total of 5 times, making $10 every time. It's a pretty fast study - for the human language processing lab. I just read sentences on a screen and answer questions as fast as I can.

After that, I headed home and got lunch and then goofed off reading more Robin McKinley. Normally, I don't read this much of her, but I checked out a bunch of her books all at once just a few days ago.

After dinner, I worked on some word search puzzles - I found a book of them (Bible-related) in a recycling bin a little while ago, so I took it. I've done quite a few of them, and I'll be really bored when they run out.

I'm going to try to meet up with one of my favorite faculty members on campus today - she's really sweet and nice, and I want to catch up with her and see how she's doing. However, she hasn't responded to my email yet (that I sent ~3 hours ago), so maybe she took the day off.

That's it for today, I think.

Have a good one!

July 13, 2010 9:30 AM

So, now that I have eaten an everything bagel and relaxed a bit, I feel much better. So, here is my post!

Yesterday I worked 7:30am-1pm and 5pm-8pm (just for those of you who are wondering what my hours are). So, in my 4 hour break, I walked home (half an hour), made and ate lunch (45 mins), nap/nightmares (1 hour), and then ate a mango and walked back to work. When I got home, Urug, Jersey, Tony, and Kim were playing Settlers of Catan on the kitchen table, so instead of fixing dinner, I ate cold rice and soy ice cream.

I read more Robin McKinley before we started playing Settlers with me. I won! but the game was really dragging since no one thought they were doing well enough to win (and the trading was really luke-warm).

On the bright side, I won!

For those of you who know me, I've decided to stop my food list. For those of you who don't know me, my food list started on January 30, 2010, and I kept track of everything I ate, how much I ate, if it was vegan or not, if it was good or bad, and the time and date I ate it.

It was way too much work, and it was only useful to take to the doctor and have her laugh at me. It also helped get my memory working, and now I am stuck in the habit of looking at the clock when I take my first bite of something. Also, I have gotten extremely anal about what I put in my food and what other people serve me.

I don't have much more to say today, so I'll post two more character profile's for my friends.

Kim is a feisty brunette that likes picking on boys. I think she's the type of person that gets lonely really easily and really fast, so even when we aren't doing anything, she comes over and watches TV while we play on our computers quietly. She drives a minivan, which is useful when we want to pile into a car but have more than 5 people. She's also good at laughing at bad jokes.

Laura is one of the girls we saw Batman with on last Friday - she's tall, and we like to joke around that her and her sister are giraffes. She's dating this guy that everyone says talks down to her, but I don't think its like that. It's more like, she spoils him rotten sometimes, so his joking comments like "Bring me cheese" lead to her actually slicing cheese and bringing it over to him. I always think she looks like Rachel McAdams from The Notebook, especially in the picturesque cover of the DVD (which I see checked out all the time at the library where I work).

So, yeah, I think that covers it for today. I might post something later, but you know how that goes... it's all up in the air until it actually happens.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

July 13, 2010 8:00 AM

So, I used to have nightmares like for 5-6 day stretches when I was in middle school. It would get to the point that I would become sick and eventually my brain would shut down so I could finally get some rest. These would happen like once a month or so, and I was pretty pale and tired-looking all the time.

When I moved up to Rochester for college, it went away. I would only have one per month, and it wouldn't stretch on for days like before. I loved it, and I assumed I was cured.

Well, it's come back - as in, I've had them for three days now. They're not exactly scary, but when I'm dreaming, my mind feels fear from the situations, even if I'm just sitting in an empty room.

So yeah, I am super-sleep deprived right now, and I might not do my usual two posts today. Not that anyone is eagerly awaiting them, but you know what I mean.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Monday, July 12, 2010

July 12, 2010 8:30 AM

So, I thought I'd give character descriptions of my friends - just for some background on the people I mention in my posts. I use common nicknames for all of them (just like how my name REALLY isn't Molly, but that's what everyone calls me anyway), but those of you who know me will probably know who I am talking about.

Veg-Ann is my bestest bestest friend! She's vegan (as her name suggests), and she keeps to it. She makes the best salads ever, has the best taste in music, and is the most easy-going, fun-loving, comforting person I know! She used to go to RIT with me (which is how I met her), but then she transferred to New Jersey to study there. I go down and see her a lot (and her family is great!), but I do miss her a lot during the school year.

Tony is one of my best guy friends - we dated for a year and a half, but most of the awkwardness from the break-up is gone (most people told us that our relationship was like middle school-ers anyway). He lives with Jersey, Matt, and Mike during the school year, and I generally hang out with him a lot. He's from Pennsylvania, so we always make fun of how 'white' and 'small town-y' he is.

Urug is another guy friend - he's living with me this (2010) summer, and I always associate him with the Internet. He's the kinda guy that when I come home, he's like, "Have you seen this video/comic/sweet background?!" and then proceeds to show you videos for the next half hour. He's a lot of fun to hang out around, and I like to think of him as a big fluffy ginger stuffed animal.

Matt is pretty great - whenever I see him, he's generally doing stuff, but I think he spends a lot of his time on the computer like Urug (but on different sites) 'cause he always pulls Internet jokes out during conversation. Whenever we have parties or potlucks, Matt brings one of his desserts - they are always sugar loaded and chocolate-filled, and even before I went vegan-ish, I was too afraid to try them out... But all the guys love them, and their teeth haven't fallen out yet.

Mike is a game design major, and he's always on his computer - LITERALLY. Even when he plays video games, he's got his laptop with him. The only times he closes it are: when he goes to class, when he's eating (sometimes), and when his girlfriend comes up from New York City area to visit him (and the rest of us, 'cause we love her to death!) Mike is a great guy, and he always cleans his plate at meals - and sometimes everyone else's!

Jersey is my best guy friend - he's living with me this summer, and he always worries that I'm gonna be ticked off at the way he sets things down (I know I'm anal about some things, but really, Jerz, you are doing just fine! The apartment is livable!) He's pretty sweet and super tall, which e likes to take pride in the way my neighbors take pride in their lawn (mowed three times a week and fed MiracleGro). We both love to eat Asian food and try new things out, and living with him has been pretty great so far!

Mom - you guessed it! She's my mother, and she's a sweetheart, if a bit too sensitive. She spends most of the little phone time we have talking about my little brother, which is fine, but if I wanted to hear about him, I'll call when he was around. She's fluent in Spanish, and my Irish blood comes from her side of the family. She's really pretty, but she hates her salt-and-pepper hair. I wish she wouldn't dye it black 'cause it looks good on her.

Dad - my Lithuanian blood comes from this side of the family, and he's the gruff, 'no, I don't want to play cards with you; I have work to do' guy who plans all of our family trips down to the last hour and always brings back souvenirs when he goes on business trips. One of my favorite childhood stories about my dad was when I was little, I would open and slam the bottom dresser drawer for fun. One night, he decided that he wasn't going to listen if I started wailing for attention. He heard the drawer slam, and then, as usual, I started wailing. He waited for a bit, but then after I didn't stop, he asked Mom if he should go check on me - she said to wait a little longer. Anyways, when he finally came in, I was bawling 'cause I had caught my hand in the drawer. He spent the rest of the night next to me, making sure I was safe and alright. He's like the big teddy bear of the family.

Dee is my older sister - she's two years older than I am, and she has the most vibrant red silky curls I have ever seen. I love her hair, and its soft too! We used to be really close, but when she moved out for college, we kinda drifted apart, though we still have those moments where its like the old days. She's into Dungeons and Dragons (which is like a video game before screens existed - like a board game where you use calculators and dice to figure out if your attack was successful and how much damage it did), and she has a close group of friends that she plays with. Sometimes I call her a hermit, but it's not that she doesn't leave the apartment - it's more that her apartment is surrounded by boring places, so there's no point in leaving.

Luke is my little brother - he's just under 4 years younger than me. He's tall and a little bulky, but a smart kid. He always is doing something wrong, so he's constantly tuning everyone else out since he's heard it all before. I think he decided a long time ago that some things just aren't worth the effort. But he's got his good streaks, and he's really good with little kids (probably 'cause he's similar to them). He also likes computer stuff a lot (which reminds me, its my turn in our facebook game of scrabble).

Joanna is one of my girl friends. She's got a great sense of style and a fabulous body to show it off. I can always count on her for a good time, and her laugh is... vibrant, healthy, full of life! She's been working on a blog this summer too, which is what got me started on this one. She also knows the best cheesy flicks to recommend, and I love her to death! Plus, she's brought back coffee dates and tea breaks! I don't know about you guys, but she's the only person I know that hosts tea parties throughout the year!

I'll probably add on more people as the blog goes on, but this is as much typing as I can put out for now.

:D Enjoy the rest of your day!

July 12, 2010 8:00 AM

Good morning!

So, how was your weekend?

On Friday night, I went over to a friend's house and watched the old Batman and Robin movie with Uma Thurman... and ate some of the best gazpacho out there! I had a pretty great time, and I have got to say - I looked forward to coming in to work today to write up how my weekend had gone!

I guess what my friends told me about blogging being addicting was true!

On Saturday morning, I got up at 8:30am (which is late compared to my normal 5:30am on weekdays). After a quick shower and breakfast, Jersey (one of my flat-mates) and Tony (one of my best guy friends) dragged me out of the apartment to go to the public market! Once there, we used coupons from the Rochester City newspaper to get empanadas and fruit drinks for just a penny! We had cut out too many this week since we thought other people would be coming to join us at the market - so I handed three of them out to other people.

One of the girls from Friday night showed up, and once she got her empanada, we started shopping! All the produce and fruit looked pretty great, and I ended up buying quite a bit! After we parted at the market, the two boys and I went to the Asia Market, where I picked up some tofu, veggie noodles, and green tea buns.

Lunch was fried noodles with tofu and veggies, and I played Tales of Symphonia for a few hours - I don't play video games at all, so it took me like an hour and a half just to figure out the controls. I gave up just after 5pm and re-read Robin McKinley's The Hero and the Crown. It was pretty great, and there were more funny sections than I remembered.

For dinner, I didn't eat much. In fact, I think I spend the rest of the night zoning out in front of my computer screen, reading the plot-line for the game I had been playing earlier - now that I know how it ends, I can't say I really want to play it anymore...

On Sunday, I got up at 8:00am and showered and ate before hurrying down the infamous "Quarter Mile" - an stretch of walk-way going down the middle of RIT's campus that actually is a third of a mile (despite it's name). I got to church early enough to practice the music for this Sunday, and then we celebrated Mass.

Afterwards, I scurried home and crashed for half an hour until the president of the pro-life club on campus, Life Right RIT, (of which I am the secretary) picked me up. Then we went to a potluck picnic at the park where the rest of the members here in the summer met up with us, along with a retired programmer who lives nearby. We had an enjoyable time, and most of the folks from the picnic went over to one guy's place for the World Cup game after.

I went home and crashed again - waking up in time for the two boys, my other flat-mate called Urug, and I to head out to Yummy Cafe to buy some cheap Chinese food. I got Thai Peanut Sauce on my tofu and veggies, and it was pretty good. The brown rice I ordered was not very good at all, but the boys gave me their white rice so I was fine. They say its not very good there, but it was much better than the brown rice I got.

I'll probably eat the leftover rice with my lunch today when I get home from work. I am way too lazy to make my own rice (it takes 40 mins! That's too much work!), so I always enjoy getting it at other places. It's much easier to put noodles in boiling water and wait three minutes.

After dinner, we went to Wegmans (a supermarket chain up north) and bought the things we didn't get at the market - for me, this was spinach, celery, bread, and salsa, though I did put a bunch of stuff in Jersey's carts since he owes me. After we unloaded the groceries, Tony and Jersey went over to one guy's house to pick up a card game called Settlers of Catan.

I'll try to explain the game here - the board is an island that is divided up into different sections of land that can produce different commodities. So, there are plains where you get sheep, fields for grain, mountains for ore, forests for wood, and red dusty plains for brick. There is also a desert section of the map.

If you combine certain resources like brick and wood, you can build roads, settlements, cities, or buy development cards. The goal of the game is to get 10 victory points - and these can be obtained by owning cities, settlements, longest road, or development cards.

Development cards can range from soldiers (who allow you to steal a commodity from a nearby player among other things), to calling a monopoly (which allows you to take all of one type of card from every other player), to getting a victory point.

So, you basically want to build settlements on the parts of the board that overlap several commodities so you can get some of everything. There's more to the game than this, but this is the basic outline.

Anyway, we had a great time last night, and I wasn't as cut-throat as I usually am! though Urug complained that I was really hard on him (he was winning the whole game though, so of course I would be mean to him). We ended just past midnight, and I went to bed.

This morning I got up at 5:30am, showered, and then zoned out on the couch. I didn't feel like eating or doing much of anything, but I managed to choke down some food before walking to work today with Jersey.

And here I am!

So I thought I'd clarify about that "mostly vegan" comment in my profile:

I eat vegan food for every meal with a few exceptions - if someone makes me food, says "oh, I was so excited to make vegan food that fits what you eat" and I look at it and its not vegan (like it has egg or milk in it), I suck it up and eat it. If someone serves me something that generally is vegan (like bagels) and I'm not sure if its vegan (but it probably is), then I'll eat it. If it's sushi (and not just something tossed together but like $3/piece high quality stuff), then I might (depending on my mood).

I also don't pay attention to things like "vegan sugar" since regular sugar is processed with animal bones or "vegan maple syrup" since its normally processed with lard. Same thing with Red 40 - but I do pay attention to casein and lactose derived from animals. If it has "natural cheese flavoring" but says "vegan" on the front, I tend to avoid it.

When I got my roommate at freshman year, she was a vegan, and I learned about what it was/meant. I started eating more vegetarian around her, just to be polite and more health conscious. We became best friends, and I moved with her into an apartment for my sophomore year. When we went food shopping for stuff in the fridge, I resolved only to buy vegan things at the store so we could share food. I still ate fish, meat, etc, but I had cut back a lot.

She transferred during the first part of the year (down to New Jersey), and I continued eating vegan in the apartment. When I went home for Christmas vacation, I was vegetarian until the last night when my mom put some meat in my food (devil woman). On the flight back to Rochester, I was sick, and I said "that's it! no more!"

However, seafood doesn't make me sick, so I still enjoy it from time to time. Also, I tend to get sick when I eat things with milk and egg in them, so that is gone from my diet too. I've limited what I eat (seafood-wise) to only really high-end stuff, so I won't be too much of a 'cheater' when it comes to veganism.

I do feel guilty when I'm on vegan websites looking for recipes and people are arguing about how people shouldn't call themselves vegan unless they are 100%. So I'll say this clearly - I am a pesca-vegan. And since I can't afford to eat fancy sushi often, I go for month-long stretches of veganism.

I'm doing it for health reasons (since I feel queasy and gross when I eat eggs etc), but I'm mostly doing it for fun! It's pretty great to walk around the supermarket and try to discover things I can eat (Oreos are vegan!), and I like opening the fridge and seeing tons of vegetables.

And just to clarify - veganism is defined at: http://www.vegan.org/about_veganism/index.html

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Good morning!

I can't say I've ever done this before - but after I got the idea from "Julie and Julia" (the movie with Amy Adams and Meryl Streep), I thought, why not give it a shot? I've got enough free time anyways, and maybe this will keep me from staring at the Internet and watching silly video mash-ups while sighing and watching the clock out of the corner of my eye.

I am 19 years old, female, and originally from Houston, Texas. I applied to Rice University during my senior year of high school, along with several other schools that were decent and sent me a lot of mail. I was in the top 15% of my graduating class, and we were a smart class.

However, I didn't make it into Rice, so I spent the last two months of my high school thumbing through information packets of the schools I had carelessly applied to as 'back-ups'. Finally, I decided on Rochester Institute of Technology since they had let me into their Honors program and given me a decent amount of money. Then, they offered me a summer program experience that would let me live in the dorms for free, take a few classes, and get paid to do research the summer before my freshman year.

So that made it final, and my parents dropped me off at the beginning of July in the care of total strangers - did I mention that no one from my high school had even heard of RIT? - for the next years of my life. I was nervous and confused, especially by the 70 degree weather and the presence of Uggs and gauges (the pieces of tubing that some people put in their ear piercings to stretch them out). There were hardly any people who weren't white, and I went my first couple of weeks of college without hearing a single word of Spanish (which was really strange since my mom is fluent and, well, I'm from Texas).

I made friends, learned to live with weather below 90s, and settled in Rochester and its quirky habits. I'd never been around so many computer people before in my life, and going from not being allowed to touch the home computer (my dad thought I was cursed) to living down the hall from people who had three or four screens and wrote computer programs in their free time. I learned what StumbleUpon and 4chan are, I saw thebest404pageever.com, I even learned a little about video games and how to use my roommate's Mac when I was too lazy to turn on my slow PC.

So why start a blog now, Molly? You aren't doing anything interesting - no strange projects, no weekend adventures across the countryside, no crazy things (outside of the normal). Well, I know, but I get so bored at work when no one comes up to the desk (at the library).

So this is a compilation of my boredom, my thoughts on life, etc. Maybe the things I've done in the past few days, yadda yadda. If anyone actually reads this, you can send in suggestions! I might even post things up about what I'm eating or strange events that happen (I hope some happen!).

Please enjoy!
