October 30, 2010 1:30 PM

Good afternoon!

I know I didn't post this past week, and I am very sorry. I've been suffering from writer's block - mostly because I have to write two papers, and I haven't started yet....

I've spent more time with the freshmen this week, and I hung out with the guys a lot too. I'm getting to the point where I only go home to sleep. Last Sunday, Annie set off the fire alarm because she burned her pancakes - REALLY BADLY!! Apparently, she was playing on her laptop at the kitchen table, not paying attention to the stove - which was on "High".

The alarm woke me up (since it's inches away from my face on my lofted bed), and I didn't regain my hearing until hours later. Margie was the one who turned off the stove, put the pan in the sink, covered it with water, and opened the windows. Annie just stood around laughing about how it had only been 'a few minutes' and she can't believe the alarms are so sensitive.

We stood outside in the cold for about half an hour for Public Safety to show up and tell us that we can go back inside (Luckily there wasn't actually a fire, or we'd be dead). Then the apartment had filled with smoke (literally, not just a fog - legit smoke), and I had to work on an exam. So I called the boys and got picked up and taken over to their place for ~10 hours... and I ate a ton of take-out....

So, that started a cycle of not eating at home/not eating just because Annie keeps trying to talk to me, and I'm really starting to hate her laugh. I mean, what kind of person stands around talking and laughing while her roommate runs around putting out the fire that SHE caused?! I know I didn't do anything to help personally, but that was only because I was getting dressed and half awake!!

Yeah, I know it's not good, and I'm going to try to fix that this week. I still hung around long enough to bake on Friday (it turned out great!), but she hung around me the whole time talking non-stop about every minute detail of her life... And her laugh gets really obnoxious really fast...

Enough whining. The rest of my week went fine, though I didn't do nearly as much homework as I should have - note the aforementioned papers. I also got a letter from VegAnn that made me very happy! However, I haven't written a response yet because, well, I've been avoiding writing anything.

I can't wait for Thanksgiving to come, but first I have to do my homework! Hopefully I'll get something done in the next four hours!

Oh, and I got a new toothpaste that is flavored with anise. It's absolutely amazing, but I always feel like I should brush my teeth afterwards... I guess I associate the mint-y freshness with clean more than I originally thought.

Eat some soup or steaming noodles. They are nice when the weather is cold, and you want to eat something a little messy!

October 23, 2010 4:15 PM

Good afternoon!

So, yesterday I was going to get up before 8am and bake bake bake! But I slept until 9:30am, and only got to do one 'bake'. I mailed my products off to Joanna and VegAnn - my friendly cooking aficionados in disguise!

I hope that the both of them will criticize me thoroughly so I can improve my recipes!

I also finally put my laundry away (I did it on Wednesday) and cleaned my room. Normally, my room is immaculate (and it's still pretty clean when I call it 'messy'), but I hadn't cleaned in over two weeks! So there were things on the floor - and not just books! Clothes and homework and random pieces of jewelry!

After 7pm, I went over to the guys' place with two of the fishies to chill.. and Carrie came over!! I hadn't seen the beautiful goddess of vitality and life in so long!!! We ended up watching Beerfest 'cause I got invited to a party themed around the aforementioned flick. It was pretty funny, but in a male-crude sort of way.

I was going to wake up early and bake again today, but I ended up going to bed around 2am and desperately needed sleep in order to function properly at the library this morning. Maybe I'll do some of that tonight after shopping for my Halloween costume... Stephany from Lazy Town!!! Yes, the little kid show that is constantly referenced as a pedophile-attractor... Luckily, I'll have my big, burly men around me all night, so I won't get attacked! I promise I'll be safe, Mom!

Fun fact: Today, someone took the ice shavings from the rink and made a snowman in one of the quads on campus.

Second fun fact: The alarm was going off this morning when I got to work, and Public Safety was unhappily waiting for me. I got severely chewed out because some jerk decided to yank on the lobby doors so hard, the alarm thought (s)he was trying to break in...

Final fun fact: I wanted to buy lunch, but only had three dollars and fifty cents. Unfortunately, you can't buy anything* with that. *Anything being something I would be willing to eat for lunch on a Saturday afternoon when really hungry....

Buckle down and get that homework done! I know I'm gonna work my butt off on this Advanced Organic exam I have to do!

October 21, 2010 11:00 AM

OK, so here's the skinny on my past week - SLEEP DEPRIVED AND I SOMEHOW FINISHED MOST OF MY HOMEWORK WITHOUT KNOWING IT!!

Like, honestly, I cannot remember the last time I looked at my homework, but it's all done in my handwriting, tucked in each folder....

I also have been listening to music a lot this week - mostly "Of Montreal" (see previous post).

I spent a lot of time 'studying' but actually watching movies over at the guys' place. I spent a lot of time debating what I should cook and then eating pretzels. I cut myself pretty bad trying to open a tub of hummus - and, no, I did not use a knife, it was literally the tub that cut me.

I made myself a 'Snookie-bump' for my Chemical Literature presentation on Tuesday - which sucked 'cause Margie kicked me out of the bathroom so she could take a shower and I left for class an hour later - and she was still in there.... I think I did pretty good on my Advanced Organic exam, but we'll wait and see.

Today, I get to eat lunch at Henry's, which is the restaurant run by the Hospitality department on the fourth floor of the Administration Building. I'm super-excited since you can only eat there if you have a faculty 'reserve' lunch for an event. I've scouted out the menu, and it looks like I can easily vegan-ize one or two of their salads - plus my lunch will be paid for!

One of my favorite workers is no longer on this shift with me - but he's still working at the library. He was transferred to another project where they needed him more. Still makes me sad that I won't get to see him on a regular basis...

So, tell me about your week! And don't forget to floss! (I have)

I'll do a formal update tomorrow morning - but here is something I want saved for posterity...

The format is super-messed up, but pay close attention to the times (the numbers are supposed to get smaller).

VegAnn and I are quoting songs by the band "Of Montreal" which we saw live the day before my birthday.

Good afternoon!

Friday was an easy day - I baked two loaves of "Applesauce Bread" and gave one out at a meeting and gave one to the apartment across the hall. I knitted, organized files, played video games, watched TV, ordered Chinese food, and went over to the boys' place - not in that order, of course!

Today, I'm working at the library - and will be for quite a while yet! My boss couldn't come to work, and no one would sub for him. Soooooo..... I'm working opening and closing today for a total of 14 hours!!! Straight!!! I brought a bunch of snack food, my backpack, my knitting/crocheting, etc - and held a mini-indoor picnic with my coworkers! They liked that, and I knitted one of them a little heart out of some blue fuzzy yarn.

So far, I've been here for 5.5 hours, and I've done no homework. I feel a little bad about that, but I have plenty of time left until I leave... Procrastination.... yeah....

For those keeping track, I got here and punched in at 10:29 AM - and I am scheduled to close the library at midnight - which will probably take extra time to lock up the building and set the alarms. Then I get to walk home!

Today is Brick City Weekend - which is when a bunch of parents come on-campus and go to a bunch of activities with their students. We have speakers, concerts, tours, etc going on today, so the library is as busy as a bee (a live one, that is)!

Those of you who can come to campus readily today should stop by and visit! I've got carrots, sugar snap peas, raisins, plums, apples, almonds, barbeque potato chips, and some brownies (they aren't vegan, but my coworker brought them in for us).

Stretch out your back today and take out the trash!

Good morning!

So, I really need to start updating you guys during the week, but it's kinda hard to find time/remember. The problem is, when I am at work, I can't exactly remember what happened earlier in the week.... but I'll do my best!

So, I got to go to that party on Saturday - and another one, plus we had a mini-get-together at the guys' place. It was a very successful venture, and I am super-grateful to Tony and Jersey for going with me/driving!

Sunday, I didn't go to church (oops), mostly because I was still exhausted - but also because I was getting sick again! This always happens when the weather starts going schizo... THERE WAS FROST ON THE ROOFS ON WEDNESDAY!!! AND ALL OVER THE GRASS TOO!!!

Monday, I skipped my Advanced Organic class because I was still sick - I felt so nauseous I couldn't even take medicine or sleep. I kinda curled up on the floor in a 'nest' of blankets and waited for the sun to rise. Luckily, I was back to full-power by 3:00 PM to go to my meeting and class. Then I did some homework and went over to the guys' place to chill and play games.

Tuesday I got a lot accomplished, but not much of it was homework. I really need to bust out some serious studying - but at least I am up-to-date with all my meeting stuff.

Wednesday I did homework and went to class - in a restaurant!!! My Philosophy class went to The King and I for class since we had a budget we could use for the class. I was the only one who finished their entire meal - and I was still hungry!! I got Phat Phet Tofu - with steamed tofu and brown rice. I also ate some white rice to soak up the sauce when I ran out of brown rice.

Today I am taking a quiz in Inorganic Chemistry I - I took the first quiz and got a 95, but today's quiz covers a lot more information which has me worried.

On the bright side, I have almonds, raisins, and chocolate for lunch today! Yum!

Buy something on impulse today - you deserve the extra lovin'!

October 9, 2010 11:30 AM

Good morning!

Well, here are some updates - I know my last post was super-rushed...

First of all, Thursday was a total rush, but I was very happy when it ended. Friday, I got up before 7am to bake and do homework - unfortunately I discovered that our bread pans had 'mysteriously disappeared'.... So I say around sadly doing homework with no delicious applesauce bread in the oven... After meetings, I went over to Dr. Destler's house for the Senior Picnic - and took pictures of his banjo collection.

I didn't know anyone there until I ran into some people from a party. They were nice enough to let me hang out with them for a while, and they went on a tour of the house with me even though they already had seen it. I left early (so they could have fun without a tag-along), and then went over to the boys' place to order Chinese and act like a dork.

We watched the old "Batman Returns" movie with Catwoman and The Penguin - but by that point, I was completely out of it. I got home around 2am and crashed before rising bright and early for work today!!

Several things to mention - I found out that I have a trust fund for 'educational expenses' just this last week - as in, now that I am about to graduate, my family is like, 'oh, yeah - why haven't you used anything from your trust fund?' and I'm like, 'what trust fund?'. I knew my sister had one, but no one said anything about me, and since it is run through my aunt and I don't know who Dee's godmother is, I assumed that Dee got it from my aunt because of that. So now I have to scrounge up old housing and tuition bills to fill them and get my parents reimbursed. Did I mention that no one told me about this during the previous two years I've spent at college? Really, guys! Way to pack the stress/work on before all my projects and presentations are due!

I've been invited to a party tonight - that I REALLY want to go to, but I don't know anyone there except the birthday boy. So I thought, 'hey, I need a ride and someone to go with - so why not combine the two and bring along an awesome person with a car!' Unfortunately, said awesome person and her sister (very awesome as well) are busy tonight, so now I have to go through my contacts to find someone who will go (but not know anyone there). And I don't want to bring one of the guys because they'll get the wrong impression if I bring just one. And I don't want to bring a group because that would probably be mean to take so many people. BUT I WANT TO GO!!!!

Hmm....

Go buy something with cherries in it or a baked delicious!

October 7, 2010 11:30 AM

Good morning!

It's been quite a while since I updated, and I am feeling guilty.

Saturday - the corn maze was a-maize-ing (hee-hee). We heard this group of people talking about how "Kyle" was leading them in the wrong direction, and they were calling out his name. So we decided to start calling out Kyle's name whenever we got lost - and we met him! Turns out he knows Jersey, and then it was even more fun to run around calling out his name in the dark! Several other groups started doing it too, and when we left the maze, we called out his name over the microphone, and the whole maze started yelling his name back at us. We saw them again when they got out of the maze and we were drinking hot cider.

Sunday - I went to church for the first time in three weeks (which made me feel super-guilty), but everyone was nice about it. After church, I worked on homework and fooled around on the net for the rest of the day.

Monday - Classes were rough, but I finished my interviews for my assistant. The girl I picked is capable, and I look forward to working with her.

Tuesday - Wednesday was a blur, though I felt sick and went to bed super early.

And now the library is chaotic, and I gotta go!

Take good care of yourself!

October 2, 2010 6:37 PM

Quick update - just to let you know I'm not dead!

Thursday, I got out of Inorganic early and got out of lab two hours early! Which means I got to have dinner!

Then I went to my meeting, hung out for a bit reading a vegan baking cook book, and went home to sleep.

Friday - I handed out 6 boxes worth of chocolate bunnies, did an interview, went to 2 meetings, ran a College Of Science Honors event, did laundry, and then held a potluck at my place that went until one in the morning... Not many people showed, but the ones who did had a good time and took food home with them! No one brought anything but dessert or a bag of chips, so we ended up eating hummus, chips, pretzels, dessert, and some fake meat drenched in BBQ sauce that I had lying in the freezer.

Saturday - Today! I had two meeting during my shift at work, so I only spent three and a half hours behind the desk - most of which was spent responding to emails and denying applications for the job that people are interviewing with me for (same one as the interview on Friday). I had to make it sound professional and give good reasons why they were denied, and that took a while.

But now I am home and eating quickly before the boys come to take me to Macedon for The Amazing Moonlight Maize Maze!!! I forgot to bring my lunch today to work, so I'm gonna bury that in my bag and snack during the trip. Luckily one of my bosses shared her food with me during the second meeting, too!

Gotta go now! Take care, stay warm, and carry an umbrella just in case!!
